2 Americans Killed In Libya Attack Were Former SEALs From SoCal
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Two of the four Americans killed this week in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were former Navy SEALs from San Diego County.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in a statement Thursday they were Tyrone S. Woods and Glen A. Doherty, who both provided security at the consulate.
Woods, 41, is from Imperial Beach south of San Diego and Doherty, a native of Massachusetts, lived for several years in Encinitas, north of San Diego.
Clinton said Woods, a Navy SEAL for two decades, since 2010 had protected American diplomats in posts from Central America to the Middle East.
She says Doherty was a trained pilot and paramedic, and co-authored a book about the modern challenges of being a military sniper.
