2 Accused Of Ramming San Bernardino Sheriff's Investigators
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Two men were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on drug and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer charges.
Antonio Cabada, 23, and Gabriel Banuelos, 32, both of San Bernardino were arrested last Monday at the end of a chase that ended in the city of Rialto, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.
Authorities say narcotics investigators were conducting surveillance on a home in the 1500 block of North I Street in San Bernardino when they spotted "narcotic-related activity" and two vehicles leaving the residence. One of the cars, a light brown Taurus, was followed by the detectives, who attempted a traffic stop, sheriff's officials said.
The Taurus drove at unsafe speeds and made several abrupt turns in an attempt to elude the officers, officials said. But a sheriff's helicopter kept the vehicle in sight.
When investigators caught up to the Taurus, officials say the suspect intentionally drove the Taurus into a sheriff vehicle in an attempt to escape. Investigators eventually put an end to the chase by using the PIT maneuver near Foothill Boulevard and Acacia Avenue in Rialto.
A search of the Taurus yielded about 35 pounds of methamphetamine, sheriff's officials said.
Both men are being held at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center on $200,000 bail.
