1st Of 2 Storm Systems Moves Into Southern California
Update (As Of 12 p.m.): According to Southern California Edison (SCE), power has been restored to the 2,188 customers in Malibu. SCE also reports that the outage in Santa Monica, which is affecting 116 customers, is not weather-related. Also, customers in Topanga Canyon should expect power returned by 2 p.m.
In addition, crews are currently on scene in the valley, attempting to restore power to 1,700 customers.
Update (As Of 10:20 a.m.): Showers will continue through the lunch hour from the Basin into the Inland Empire. Partly cloudy skies expected by afternoon with a slight chance of some precipitation.
Meantime, the California Highway Patrol is attributing the weather and slick roadways to an increase in traffic crashes, according to the Associated Press.
Elsewhere, SCE is reporting scattered power outages in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Topanga Canyon., North Hills, Van Nuys and the Kernville/Bishop area.
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A fetch of moisture continues to push through the Southland, bringing with it steady rainfall and chilly temperatures.
As of 7 a.m., light to moderate showers were being reported in Long Beach through the Inland Empire.
The rain also prompted the issuance of a Green Flag Warning for the city of Sierra Madre. The alert is part of a three-step warning process to put residents on notice of rain and for the possibility of mudslides.
High winds were also forecast for the Southland later Saturday. A high wind warning was in effect for the High Desert, San Bernardino County, and the mountains in Riverside County through about 10 p.m., according to CBS2/KCAL9 Meteorologist Kaj Goldberg.
A wind advisory was also in effect for the Antelope Valley and Los Angeles County Mountains until about 7 p.m.
Meantime, a high surf advisory is currently in effect for the Ventura coastline, with another advisory expected to go into effect Sunday morning for the Orange County coastline.
The day, however, won't be a complete wash out. Some sunshine is expected by afternoon with temperatures in the low 60s in the Los Angeles Basin, valleys and beaches.
Another storm system is expected to move in on Monday.
