17-Year-Old Reckless Driving Suspect Taken Into Custody After Leading Officers On 2-Hour Pursuit
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 17-year-old reckless driving suspect was arrested near San Onofre Monday afternoon after leading authorities on a two-hour, circuitous chase that began in the Calabasas area.
Sheriff's deputies initially tried to stop the motorist for alleged reckless or impaired driving in the Calabasas area, but the suspect kept going, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The SUV entered the westbound Ventura (101) Freeway about 12:30 p.m., and the sheriff's department asked for assistance from the CHP, which took over the pursuit, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.
The suspect reversed course and drove east on the 101 Freeway, then north on the San Diego (405) Freeway to Sylmar, where he transitioned to two other freeways in a circular pattern and wound up driving south on the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass to West Los Angeles.
The suspect continued southbound along the 405 Freeway, then to the 5 Freeway in Orange County, before surrendering in the San Onofre area.
