15-Acre Murrieta Brush Fire Under Control

MURRIETA (CBS) — Firefighters say they've gotten full control of a wind-driven brush fire that scorched more than 15 acres.

The fire, which was reported Friday afternoon at Wright Road and Shauna Chairman Lane, was under full control by midnight, CalFire/Riverside County fire Capt. Laura Germany said.

The fire did not threaten homes.

Roughly 150 firefighters engaged the fire as winds propelled it south across open fields, according to fire officials.

Along with county fire personnel, crews from the U.S. Forest Service, Murrieta and Pechanga Indian Reservation fire departments devoted air and ground resources to battle the flames.

One person suffered minor to moderate injuries when a county engine rushing to the scene apparently collided with a vehicle. The motorist was transported to an area hospital, said spokeswoman Cheri Patterson.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
