Upon arriving on scene, they located the victim, identified as a 14-year-old female, suffering of several gunshot wounds.
The teen, now identified as Alicia Cassandra Gomez, was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Art Barron, reporting for CBS2, spoke to the victim's friends and they told him Gomez was involved with a local street gang and believe the shooting to be gang-related.
He also spoke to the victim's grief-stricken mother who was unaware of her daughter's gang ties.
Barron reported the teen lived in Lynwood with her father.
At the time of the shooting, Gomez was riding a bicycle and was believed to be alone.
"The witnesses looked out and heard the gunshots, they saw her by herself so if someone was with her, they took off," said Lt. John Carina of the LA County Sheriff's Department.
The shooter remains at large, according to authorities.
