13 Passengers Hurt When Metrolink Train Collides With Dump Truck In San Fernando

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — More than a dozen Metrolink passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries when a train collided with a dump truck in the San Fernando Valley Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m near the 9800 block of San Fernando Road, according to Los Angeles City Fire.

"And then there was a bump, kind of like if you were on a bus and you hit a big bump, but that was unusual on a train, and then everyone started screaming," said passenger Evalon Witt.

A dump truck was crossing the tracks when it was pummeled by train 266 of the Antelope Valley line and pushed on its side.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene and released. CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Art Barron said he refused to comment on the crash.

The train was stopped on the tracks for 30 minutes and riders were kept on board in the sweltering heat before being brought to the Sylmar station.

Paramedics went through the cars evaluating the 130 passengers for injuries.

Thirteen riders were reportedly hurt, many saying they felt back pain.

Nine passengers, all adults, were transported to hospitals, according to L.A. City Fire.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
