Former Dodgers Owner O'Malley Calls For Sale Of Team

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Peter O'Malley, whose family owned the Los Angeles Dodgers for 47 years, is calling upon Frank McCourt to sell the team, saying the current ownership has lost all credibility.

O'Malley has remained largely silent during the divorce between McCourt and his estranged wife, Jamie, but in an interview with The Los Angeles Times the 72-year-old former owner says the organization is crying out for stability.

O'Malley says he is not interested in returning to ownership but would be willing to work with potential new owners during a transition period. He wants to see the team owned by a small group of people from Los Angeles.

McCourt responded in a statement through his spokesman, Steve Sugerman, saying that he is the long-term owner of the team.
