11 Montebello Unified School District Employees To Split $12M SuperLotto Jackpot
WHITTIER (CBS) — A group of 11 workers for the Montebello Unified School District might need a brush up on their math skills now that they have to share a $12 million SuperLotto Plus lottery jackpot.
The district employees -- a mix of full- and part-time clerical workers -- have been playing the lottery together for nearly 12 years, according to the California Lottery.
According to Ramone Solis, a member of the group heard a winning ticket had been sold at the 7-Eleven store where they purchase their tickets, so Solis went to the store to check.
"Members of the group had heard about a winning ticket being sold in Whittier so they were already assembled when I returned to confirm the win," Solis said. "We all jumped around the office screaming and celebrating."
The group had not yet decided whether to take annuity payments or the cash option. If they take the cash option, the group will divide an estimated $7.1 million, according to lottery officials.
The ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven at 10437 Whittier Blvd. The retailer will receive a bonus of $60,000 for selling the winning ticket.
