11 Arrested When Zimmerman Protest Turns Violent In San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Police said a march protesting the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin turned violent in San Bernardino Thursday night.
Police Chief Robert Handy said Friday that 11 people were arrested for robbery, damaging of police and civilian cars, assault on bystanders and hitting a police horse with a rock.
Handy said none of those arrested at the march of about 100 people were part of the original group of protesters, who were peaceful throughout and promptly dispersed when told.
The chief said those who were arrested and a few dozen others who made trouble joined the event when it passed through their neighborhood.
