1 Year Later, Video Shows Jay Leno Escaping 'Love Ride' Motorcycle Crash
BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — An accident that could have nearly wiped out Jay Leno on a motorcycle last year was caught on video, and the footage may shed light on another wreck that happened on the same day.
The video, released by TMZ on Tuesday, was shot from a helmet-cam worn by Christina Silva during the 28th annual "Love Ride" mobile charity fundraiser on Oct. 23, 2011.
In the video, a white motorcycle next to Leno brakes abruptly and is rear-ended by another bike.
Silva declined an on-camera interview with KCAL9's Carter Evans, but told TMZ she was blamed for causing the accident on the 5 freeway and was not allowed to participate in this year's motorcycle event because of it.
The chairman of the "Love Ride," however, said no one was banned from the 2012 event, including Silva.
The crash coincided with a deadly accident on the same stretch of the 5 freeway.
Romarino Zeri and his girlfriend, Julie Cameron, were killed when their motorcycle collided with a big rig.
A year ago, Zeri's son, Aaron, said he was devastated and searching for answers.
"It's not fair. It's not fair at all," he said.
Aaron, who chose not to appear on-camera, said he's never seen Silva's video and wonders why it was released exactly one year after his father's death.
However, he believes it may show the first of two accidents that ultimately led to the fatal crash.
Aaron told Evans that he will have a lawyer take a look at the footage.
