1 Year Later, San Pedro Church Still Mourns Slain Member
SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com)— Members of a San Pedro church held a moment of silence Monday in memory of a 60-year-old usher who was murdered after a service on Christmas Eve of last year.
Police said Eva Tice, a 4-foot-10-inch woman with the mental capacity of a child, was walking home from Hope Chapel San Pedro on Pacific Avenue when she was stabbed multiple times in the chest.
Tice was holding a Bible, with her name written on the inside, when the incident occurred.
The victim's friend, Corie Ramirez, is still haunted by what happened.
"It brings a sadness. Walking into church and knowing that she is not part of us… that she is not here…that she's not singing with us and bringing her joy," said Ramirez.
Pastor Vince Ornelas of Hope Chapel said, "Eva was a sweetheart. She always wanted to be involved with everything here. She had the heart of a child. Her heart was so big."
Ornelas said officials still haven't made any arrests in connection to Tice's murder despite a $50,000 reward.
"It bothers us that there are people out there that probably know something and haven't said anything… and even after a $50,000 reward was offered… there is still nothing," he said.
Police believe robbery may have been a motive of the attack.
