1 Man Killed In Riverside House Fire

WOODCREST (CBS) — One person was killed by a fire that destroyed a large home near Riverside Saturday, the fire department said.

Two other people required treatment for smoke inhalation.

It took 27 firefighters nearly two hours to put out the blaze that was reported at 1:39 a.m. in the 16000 block of Perry Heights Drive in Woodcrest.

The fire was so intense the roof of the two-story house collapsed, according to Cheri Patterson of the fire department.

Firefighters found the body of an adult male at 3:30 a.m., Patterson said. The coroner has not released the name of the victim.

Damage to the home was estimated at $300,000 and the cause of the blaze was under investigation, Patterson said.

This was the second deadly fire in Riverside County in less than 48 hours, fire officials said. A Palm Desert woman was killed in a mobile home fire Thursday that investigators believe was caused by her smoking in bed.

The coroner has not released the name of that 75-year-old woman, who lived at Indian Springs Mobile Home Park on Highway 74.
