1 Killed In Compton Shooting; Suspects At Large

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives investigated the circumstances Saturday surrounding the shooting-death of an adult male victim in the city of Compton.

According to the Los Angeles County Sherrif's Department, deputies were sent to the 600 block of West Cherry Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a black male in his late 30s, was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect's vehicle reportedly stopped on the street near him.

The passenger exited the vehicle and fired several rounds at the victim, deputies explained.

The suspect then proceeded to flee the scene going Eastbound on West Cherry Street.

According to detectives, the victim was struck by gunfire multiple times in his upper and lower torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials described the suspects as two Hispanic males that drove a late model, light-colored vehicle.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
