1 Killed After Several Cars Crash On 10 Freeway In Baldwin Park
BALDWIN PARK (CBSLA) — One person was killed early Wednesday in a crash on the 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park.
The crash was reported just after 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes just west of Francisquito Avenue and involved several vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 57-year-old Ana Guillen of West Covina was driving her 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe west at a slow speed, or had come to a stop when a 55-year-old Montclair man in a 1993 Nissan pickup approached and sideswiped the left rear of the Hyundai.
The impact sent the Nissan spinning into middle lanes, where 37-year-old Luis Uribe of Covina was unable to avoid hitting the pickup truck.
According to the CHP, it's not clear if the Nissan's driver was standing outside or still sitting inside the pickup truck, but he was fatally injured in the second crash and pronounced dead at the scene. The man has not yet been identified.
Guillen was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was taken to Kaiser Medical Center in Baldwin Park for a mental health evaluation, the CHP said. Uribe was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina with a fractured back.
The crash blocked four lanes at one point, with traffic only able to squeeze by in the carpool lane.
The westbound lanes were fully reopened by 7 a.m.
