Close Call For Some Visitors After A Tram Crashes At Universal Studios Hollywood

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS (CBSLA.com) — Some visitors at Universal Studios had a close call Wednesday afternoon when a tram they were sitting in slammed into a sign and was forced to stop on a steep slope.

Pictures taken by witnesses show the corner of the sign protruding into the tram right where they said a man jumped out of the way.

A woman was captured on camera covering her left eye with her hand. A witness said "Fiberglass I think was in her eye. There's fiberglass all over the seat."

Paint chips flew into her eye, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. Firefighters spent 10 minutes flushing the residue out of her eye. She was expected to be OK.

Some people didn't like how Universal Studios handled the incident. A visitor named Brooke said staff members told her and others not to take pictures. "The first initial thought from what I could understand was - how do we fix this without anyone knowing? Not how do we fix anyone who got hurt," she said.

A spokeswoman for the theme park called it a minor incident and said park operations were not affected.

The incident came on the eve of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction's opening for which online advance tickets were sold out, according to park officials.
