1 Hurt After Plane Crashes On Runway Of Chino Airport
CHINO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a single-engine plane crashed and caught fire at a Southern California airport, leaving one of two people inside with serious injuries.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot of the 1978 Mooney M20J crashed while practicing takeoffs and landings at about 12:40 p.m. Saturday at Chino Airport 40 miles east of Los Angeles.
Gregor says one person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, the other was not hurt.
The plane was doing "touch-and-go" maneuvers, where a pilot lands, rolls and takes off again without stopping.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
FAA records show the plane is registered to Ground Floor Design of Tustin. There was no phone listing for the company.
The crash was first reported by KCDZ radio.
