Fatal Car Crash Snarls Traffic On Southbound 405 Freeway In West LA
WEST LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A woman was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway, authorities reported. The crash caused southbound traffic to stall for miles as California Highway Patrol officers temporarily closed several lanes for their investigation.
The accident involved three cars just north of the Santa Monica Boulevard offramp at about 8:30 p.m., CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.
A 56-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of her relatives.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Matt Spence said there were no other injuries.
The three-car collision was reported at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday.
All lanes of the southbound side of the freeway were closed as of midnight Wednesday, except for the carpool lane, backing up traffic for miles. Drivers are recommended to exit the freeway and take Sepulveda Boulevard to travel south.
Authorities were not able to say when the lanes would reopen.
The cause of the crash was still being investigated.
