1 Dead, 5 Injured In Northridge U-Turn Crash
NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — An illegal U-turn left one person dead and five others injured Thursday in a multi-car crash in the San Fernando Valley.
The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 19000 block of West Roscoe Boulevard in Northridge, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
According to police, the driver of a red 1997 Pontiac Bonneville attempted an illegal U-Turn.
"To avoid the Pontiac, the Mercedes swerved and collided with the Pathfinder, causing it to overturn. The Mercedes then continued eastbound and collided with the left side of the Pontiac," the LAPD said in a news release.
The unidentified driver of the red sedan became trapped and had to be extricated. He later died at an area hospital, police said.
Five other people, including the man's 6-year-old son and his wife in his car, were injured in the crash and were transported to area hospitals. His wife was in very critical condition and the boy
was in serious but stable condition, police said.
Investigators say they have found unopened cans of alcohol in the red vehicle and are trying to determine if the male driver was under the influence of alcohol.
