1 Dead, 2 Injured In Hollywood Freeway Crash
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A young man was killed Thursday and two others were injured when a speeding car being followed by police crashed near the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway in Hollywood, authorities said.
The men, ranging in age from their late teens to about 30, were in a Ford Escort that exited the freeway about 3:30 a.m. at Vermont Avenue and crashed into a light pole, said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
One man died at the scene, and the other two were transported for hospital treatment of "moderate to major" injuries, Villalobos said. It was unclear which man was driving, he said.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh said officers from the LAPD's Central Station were following the vehicle, which was being driven in a "reckless" manner when it crashed.
The Vermont Avenue offramp was closed for about three hours while an investigation was conducted.
