HAWTHORNE (CBS) — One man was killed and another "very critical" in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Hawthorne, sheriff's officials said.

The double shooting was reported at 1:02 p.m. in the 13500 block of Doty Avenue, said Deputy Benjamin Grubb of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Grubb said. Another was taken to a hospital and his condition is described as "very critical," Grubb added.

The deceased man's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Grubb said the victims were sitting in a vehicle when they were shot.
