HAROLD E. FORD JR.

This 30-year-old congressman from Memphis is the son of Tennessee's first African American congressman. Ford won his father's seat in 1996, becoming the youngest member of Congress. He was re-elected in 1998, receiving over 80 percent of the vote. Ford serves on the House Education and Workforce Committee, as well as the Government Reform Committee. Ford is the first African American to address the convention as keynote speaker since former Representative Barbara Jordan in 1976.
