'We Heard A Big Boom' Explosion Destroys North Arlington Townhome
ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - An explosion and fire destroyed a two-story townhome under construction in far North Arlington early New Year's Day.
The call came in around 1:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of Viridian Village Drive near North Collins Street. Upon arrival, the Arlington Fire Department discovered that a building under construction was on fire.
"We heard a big boom," one resident told CBS 11 News, "and then we saw lots of fire."
The blaze prompted a two-alarm response, and the Arlington Fire Department is assessing the area for damages. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Pictures from the scene showed the townhome collapsed with extensive damage to nearby cars and an adjacent apartment complex.
The Arlington Fire Department, natural gas provider Atmos Energy, and Oncor Electric were on the scene investigating.
Atmos said that it determined that their systems were functioning safety and as intended. The Arlington Fire Department indicated that a gas appliance may have been the cause of the blaze, and said that other residents did not need to be alarmed.
The scene is still active and the investigation is ongoing.
