NORTH TEXAS (CBS11) - When storms hit, storm chasers get out to chase it.

But the Storm Warriors are more than just chasers.

Often times, they're the first ones to arrive on the scene - even before the emergency personnel.

"Our passion was to chase storms but we found ourselves into situations that could help people's lives," says storm chaser Mike Casey.

The Storm Warriors carry axes, shovels and other debris removal material along with medical supplies.

"We're pulling out people from debris," Casey says. And at times clearing the way for emergency personnel.

Last December they added their littlest member - a puppy called Puppy (for now).

Cori Ford of the Storm Warrior team takes her out for a quick stroll.

"She has a lot to learn, obviously she's very young," Ford says.

Puppy is being trained to assist in search and rescue.

The Storm Warriors are hoping with Puppy by their side, they'll be able to find people faster when seconds count.

"I don't have that nose, they (dogs) sniff out things and they know where to go," Casey says.

It'll take about a year or two to train Puppy.

The team is asking for your help to give her a real name.

You can submit your name suggestions here.
