Shelter For Homeless Single Fathers To Open In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County dedicates its new 39,707 square-foot Scott Walker Women and Families Service Building on Wednesday, September 21.
The facility not only provides a safe refuge for single women, moms with children and dual-parent families, but is also the area's exclusive shelter for single fathers with children who are homeless.
The new facility includes the Mavs Foundation Computer Lab with new all-in-one computers and printers that will provide a place for adults to apply for jobs, complete their GED or college academics and also provide e-learning opportunities for children in the Children's Enrichment Program.
Since fundraising for the capital campaign began in 2011, a total of $8.2 million was raised through individuals, foundations, corporations, churches and community groups.
The Scott Walker Women and Families Services Building will include 28 double occupancy rooms for single women, 5 rooms for men with children, 5 rooms for dual parent families, a 12 bed emergency shelter along with the Mavs Foundation Computer Lab and Learning Center, and many other programs to help shelter patrons.
The Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County was founded in 1888 ad is a Christian nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing love, hope, respect and new beginnings for the homeless living in Tarrant County.
In 2015, UGM-TC provided served 219,119 meals to residents and guests from the street. In addition, they provided services to 3,851 homeless women, men and families and allowed 348 residents to attend life skills classes, including financial literacy, parenting and job resource classes.
