PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials in Plano are getting ready to take down a water tower on Monday morning.
The structure is located along Headquarters Drive, and the demolition should be visible to motorists passing along the Sam Rayburn Tollway and the Dallas North Tollway.
The tower will be brought down through a process called 'tipping' -- where demolition crews use torches to cut the base of the tower and then watch as the structure falls to the side. It is similar to lumberjacks cutting down large trees.
The 178-foot tower was built in 1985 to serve the Legacy business park, but it has not been operational for the past five years. The tower is being demolished to make room for new development of shops, restaurants, residential living and a high-rise hotel.
