One Dead In Overnight Arlington Apartment Fire
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- An apartment fire early Monday morning in East Arlington left one person dead and a number of other residents displaced.
The three-alarm fire occurred around 12:45 a.m. in the Cimarron Crossing Apartments just west of 360 on Pioneer Parkway.
According to authorities, 12 adults and four children lived in the 8-unit building, which was completely destroyed by the fire.
"They were trying to search and evacuate all the units they could get into, as well as mount an offensive attack to reduce the volume of the fire," says Arlington Fire Assistant Chief Bill McQuatters.
Abdul Masad says the fire was so large, he saw it as he was driving toward the complex. "I saw the fire about two miles coming down this way."
One person was unaccounted for, but officials located the body of the unidentified missing man after the flames were extinguished. One other person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
"It could have been a lot worse," said Arlington Fire Lt. Lee Tovar. "Unfortunately, we did lose one adult male, but it could have been a lot worse."
William Henley, who lived next door to the deceased person, doesn't recall hearing any fire alarms and credits firefighters for knocking on his door and saving his life.
"It's possible the firefighters would have gotten to me," said Henley. "I would have slept through it. There's no doubt in my mind."
The Red Cross was on scene assisting those displaced by the fire.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
