DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Dallas has a murder rate that's up 71 percent this year compared to 2015.
Forty-one homicides were committed thus far in 2016.
The Dallas Police Association said it's a sign the city needs to hire more officers.
"They could be putting bad guys in jail. People that will commit crimes now are usually going to be the people that are going to commit the murders in the future," said the police association president, Ron Pinkston.
The current murder rate in Dallas amounts to one homicide every other day, so far this year.
