A literary festival promoting literacy and the arts in the South Dallas area, Tulisoma (Swahili for "we read") is is bringing together authors, readers, aspiring writers and families for readings, Q&As, community breakfasts, and performances to celebrate reading and literacy. Participating authors include James Ransome (The Creations, Uncle Jed's Barbershop), Rosalyn McMillan (Knowing, Blue Collar Blues), Nicolle Pierce (The Sacred Sermon), and many others.

One of the biggest fan-run sci-fi and fantasy literary conventions, FenCon features writing panels, fan discussions, art shows and auctions, writers' workshops and short story contests.
