Thank You, Jeanne Cooper

Like many of you, I heard the news of the passing of actress Jeanne Cooper on today's The Talk (1pm weekdays on CBS11). It was at the end of the show that host Julie Chen broke the sad news to us all.

If you are a regular viewer of CBS Daytime Drama, you knew Jeanne Cooper and the role she played on The Young & The Restless, the #1 daytime drama in America today.

She played the role of Katherine Chancellor, a lady with a drinking problem who engaged in a series of affairs with younger men. She was already an established actress having appeared on such shows as Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. At age 45, she signed a three year agreement to appear in Y&R but her run ended up lasting 40 years! During this time, Cooper made significant creative and acting contributions to the show that took it to the next level. She kept those storylines going for sure!!  For a show struggling in the ratings in 1973, she certainly did her part to attract new viewers to the show that helped make it what it is today.

Cooper received 10 Daytime Emmy awards nominations, won a Daytime Emmy in 2008 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.She married TV producer Harry Bernson, Jr, in 1954. She is survived by three children: Corbin, Collin, and Caren. You may recall son Corbin as an attorney in LA Law and most recently in the series Psych.

To be able to have a steady job in the acting field for 40 years with a steady paycheck while loving what you do everyday is a blessing not given to everyone on this Earth.

Thank you, Jeanne, for entertaining us with such grace and charm over these years.

See you next time.
