Fort Worth Using Signs To Stop Panhandling
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth is testing a new sign strategy aimed at keeping panhandlers away from busy intersections.
At the request of police, the city posted signs at the intersection of I-20 and Hulen. They state simply, "Soliciting from roadway prohibited," and include the city ordinance number referencing the practice.
Police Corporal Tracey Knight said it is part of a 90-day test to see if the signs cut down on panhandling complaints that were high at the intersection, and another to the west at Bryant Irvin Road.
Police took the idea from similar signs in Grand Prairie and Arlington. Both are posted at highway intersections and both cities said they made a noticeable difference in solicitors there.
