Fort Worth SWAT Turns Arlington Heights Homes Into Training Grounds
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth's Swat team surrounded a house in Arlington Heights Monday during a training exercise. They treated the situation as though it were a real life scenario that needed their help.
"It helps because we are able to come out here and conduct realistic training on houses that we are not familiar with," said Fort Worth police Sergeant Robert Ross.
SWAT is using three homes on Pershing Avenue before they're torn down to make room for parking.
Christ Chapel Bible Church is removing the homes for a new grass paved parking field.
"We like houses where we can go in and break some items and not have to worry about fixing them that provides realistic training for us," said Sgt. Ross.
Neighbors were warned about the training; many were curious to watch SWAT in action.
"It's exciting! says Rebecca Auten. "It's fun to stop by and see it. You will see cars slow down and look and what's going on."
For the next several days the SWAT team will go through more scenarios and ultimately train for the next inevitable, possible life-threatening call.
"You never know what you will run into on these call outs," said Sgt. Ross.
