Fort Worth Outreach Helping City's Southside Homeless

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -  An outreach in Fort Worth is helping to meet the spiritual and physical needs in the Southside community.

Hundreds attended 'Operation Touch' at the New Breed Christian Center on South Riverside Thursday.

"We're prepared to feed at least 500 people for free, we are giving free haircuts, free hairstyles for the women, free clothing," explained Senior Pastor Darrell Blair. "We don't just want you to be spiritually blessed but naturally blessed as well."

"I think it's a blessing to get clothes.  I haven't had a suit in a long time, now I have a suit," said Sammy McMillian, who hopes the outreach will help turn things around for him. "I'm just doing bad right now, but hey these people are doing an awesome job helping people out."

McMillian is one of hundreds who found assistance and encouragement at the outreach  that helps the homeless and less fortunate in the community.

"I can really agree with them on what they're trying to do," said Ronnie Meeks, who attended the event.

Various vendors offered at the outreach were offering everything from vision tests, to dental check-ups and health screenings.

Attendants could even get a hand massage or a hairstyle, all free of charge.

"It's good to show the public that god is still in the miracle business," said Brenda King, who also attended the event. "God works in so many mysterious ways, and the work these people are doing today, it's great."

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price spoke at the event and visited with those in attendance.
