For $1 Million, You Can Own A Dallas Police Helicopter
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - If you've got an extra million dollars this may be just the toy for Father's day. The Dallas Police Department has put one of its choppers up for bid on an online auction website. The city is hoping to get at least a million dollars for the chopper.
The 2007 Bell Helicopter Model 407 is a four-seater with a Rolls Royce engine that has less than 2000 hours of flying time. It may be perfect for the guy who has everything. According to Dallas Police Chief David Brown "it's not the kind of luxury the city can afford."
But don't go thinking of going on your own crime-fighting spree...all of the cameras, scanners, tracking systems and "nightsun" spotlight will be removed prior to sale.
The City of Dallas has two other choppers, and that's enough for the city's needs. Mayor Dwaine Caraway says the chopper never should have been bought in the first place.
