Euless Police Officer Dies After Heart Attack

EULESS (CBSDFW.COM) - An officer with the Euless Police Department died Monday night after having an apparent heart attack. Officer Richard Wong had been the resource officer at Trinity High School in Euless for many years.

Wong was playing racquetball at a Hurst recreation center when he had the heart attack, said Sgt. Gary Landers with the Euless Police Department. He was transported to a local hospital, but could not be revived.

Parents, students and school officials said that Wong was well-liked and respected within the school community. Students organized an impromptu candlelight vigil at Trinity High School late Monday night. Dozens of people came out to pay their respects.

Judy Ramos, a spokeswoman for the school, said that counselors will be on hand for the students on Tuesday, if anyone would like to talk about the officer's death. Tuesday is the last day for students at Trinity High School before they leave for the Thanksgiving holiday.

"We are saddened by this loss," Ramos said. "He was very popular with the students, and that's important to have someone they can trust in. This is a tragic loss for the district."
