DALLAS (CBS11) - More than a year after Dallas dentist Kendra Hatcher was murdered, the person police said is responsible is now in a U.S. jail.

Brenda Delgado was extradited to Dallas from Mexico on Thursday after police said she fled to her native country shortly after Hatcher was found dead.

Investigators believe Delgado hired Kristopher Love to shoot Hatcher in an Uptown Dallas apartment garage.

They say Crystal Cortes was the getaway driver.

Police believe Delgado was the mastermind in the murder-for-hire plot that left her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend dead.

"She knew if she went to trial then, she would have no defense, she wouldn't have the ability to hire a lawyer," said George R. Milner, Delgado's attorney.

Milner said he believes there is a whole other side of the situation the public has not heard yet.

"They did not let her walk out of police custody unless they believed she was totally innocent. They never put any surveillance on her, so she's got a case," said Milner.

He said the moment Delgado's family had enough money to hire a proper defense, she voluntarily turned herself into authorities.

"Why would she then immediately say on moment's notice, I'll come back?" questioned Milner.

The Dallas County DA's Office will now organize the order of when each of the suspects will face a judge.
