Community Members Line The Streets For Euless Police Officer David Hofer

HURST (CBS 11) — Early Saturday morning, red and blue flashing lights covered Precinct Line Road in Hurst. Tight rows of patrol cars from police departments across the Lone Star State packed in. Some traveled from as far as San Angelo to take part in a final salute for slain Euless Police Officer David Hofer.
"This is the least we can do for them, considering what they do for us," said Connie Scott, who is a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. She stood along the procession route holding two large American Flags.
The show of support from law enforcement drew large crowds from the community they protect.
"We're showing our respect for the person who died, the cop who got killed," said 6-year-old Cheyenne Michelle Lester from Hurst. Cheyenne said she had learned about Hofer and his service to the community in school earlier in the week.
"It's beautiful to see all the lights and the caring and the compassion, but it's so sad," lamented business owner Leslie Sowell.
Officers on motorcycles led the way, followed by the hearse carrying Hofer. The journey from Hurst to Pennington Field in Bedford seemed longer than just 4 miles.
Ladder trucks hoisted an American flag in the air as the procession moved under the Hurstview Drive bridge.
Many held signs thanking Hofer for his service.
"I respect the police for what they do for the country to help us, to save us," Chris Dumanoit said.
A mother held her children tightly while the procession moved along in front of them. Shay Ingram said she felt compelled to bring her two daughters to witness the procession.
"[It's about] letting them see what it means to give your life for somebody and be willing to be out there to protect other people," she said.
