Best Places For New Year's Day Brunch In DFW

Brunch is an easy way to get together with friends on New Year's Day. No matter what day the holiday falls on, restaurants often cater to this crowd. Many offer brunch to the late risers and those out enjoying a day off and a new year. New Year's Day is not only the start of a new year, but also a start toward a new resolution or way of life for many people. Some start their new year feeling less than stellar after a late night of parties, but either way, with the extra day off, people tend to celebrate. These are some of the best places to find breakfast and lunch, or brunch, on New Year's Day.

La Duni
The Village at Fairview
233 Town Place
Fairview, TX 75069
(972) 549-4069
www.laduni.com

La Duni calls itself a Latin Kitchen, but really needs much more of an explanation than that. It's a combination of a bakery, coffee shop, cocktail bar and restaurant. The Latin cuisine includes brunch dishes like huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos, but there are also surprises like banana nut Latin French toast. The name is a mouthful, but so is the dish. It consists of Mexican capirotada, a casserole-type breakfast food. This one is made of French toast in a banana-pecan bread pudding, and served with warm maple syrup.

Oddfellows
316 W. 7th St.
Dallas, TX 75208
(214) 944-5958
www.oddfellowsdallas.com

This favorite Bishop Arts brunch spot is good for those who can't decide if they want breakfast or lunch, because this brunch has both covered. You can enjoy one last holiday meal and indulge in gingerbread pancakes. For a lunch option, there is buffalo mac and cheese. This simple, warm comfort food will please anyone who thinks the egg white pepperonata might signal too fancy of a menu for their taste.

The Front Room
6101 Hillcrest Ave.
Dallas, TX 75205
(214) 219-8282
www.frontroomdallas.com

The Front Room likes to be called a Park Cities diner, and that pretty much sums it up. The food qualifies it as a diner, but the décor and crowd make it a Park Cities establishment. For some home cooking with a latte, this is the place to go. Eggs benedict or a grilled ham and cheese are a couple of the entrees offered. Buttermilk biscuits and hominy grits, of course, are always options for sides.

Whiskey Cake
3601 Dallas Parkway
Plano, TX 75093
(972) 993-2253
www.whiskey-cake.com

This is a good place to go if New Year's Eve got the best of you. Whether you need a "hangover burger" or a drink from the Bloody Mary bar, Whiskey Cake can help. You must have a piece of whiskey cake before you leave. There is a reason the whole restaurant was named after it. The melt-in-your-mouth toffee torte is soaked in bourbon anglaise, dotted with spiced pecans and topped with whipped cream. Brunch starts at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day.

Cast Iron
Omni Fort Worth Hotel
1300 Houston St.
Fort Worth, TX 76102
(817) 350-4106
www.omnihotels.com/CastIron

Cast Iron serves a buffet brunch, a good idea to please a group with different tastes. The cost is $35 for adults and $17 for children. Mimosas, a staple to a good brunch, are included in the buffet. A bonus for anyone not staying at the hotel is that valet parking is included as well. Cast Iron is located in the Omni Hotel in downtown Fort Worth.
