From throwing on the wheel to hand building in clay, The Craft Guild of Dallas offers variety including morning, afternoon and evening classes as well as beginner, intermediate and advanced classes and workshops. Lectures from visiting artists are free and open to the public. For those that really want to refine their skills, there is an Apprenticeship In Clay advanced-level class. For insomniacs or people who work late hours, there is a late night class for all levels of skill that starts at 10 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m.

Originally built in 1928 as a firehouse, the building has been repurposed. Owner/instructor Keith Thomson of Firehouse Pottery realizes that adults can feel self-conscious when trying something for the first time and might feel uncomfortable with people looking over their shoulder. He offers intimate individual and private small group classes. In an hour class, a student will get to experience working on the pottery wheel and making several pieces. They return about two weeks later to glaze the pieces. "The experience is very therapeutic," says Thomson. "It is a stress reliever; it is meditative." Thomson has taught blind students as well as students with cancer.

Founded in 1965, the Creative Arts Center of Dallas offers a wide range of ceramic classes. In the Art of Ceramics Class a variety of techniques are taught – throwing at the wheel, handing building and textural surface formation. Students will be taught how to mix and use glazes. Classes are usually three hours long, run for eight weeks and include extra studio time for you to work on your pieces.

American Ceramic Supply Company's "Just a Taste of Wheel Throwing" is an hour-long clay experience at the potter's wheel. This is a great class for those that have always wanted to try working at a potter's wheel or need a refresher class in the basic technique. In the two-hour introduction to wheel throwing class, a student can spend time creating more complex pieces. The Couples or 'Date Night' class offers private instruction for two with either hand-building or wheel-throwing, a CD of photos commemorating your night's experience and beverages. You are encouraged to BYOB and must be over 21 years of age. All classes include all materials (clay and glazes) and two firings.

Brookhaven College offers a multi-level course designed to meet the needs of the individual. The beginning course teaches hand-building and throwing. In the semester-long course of 16 weeks, students create several different pieces, use different types of kilns and learn a variety of finishing techniques.
