Fixed: 911 Outage Affected More Than 1 Dozen North Texas Counties, Cities
#UPDATE: It was a technical glitch that caused the outage for about 1.6 million North Texans on Wednesday.
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Call centers in the NCTCOG911 experienced a 911 outage beginning around noon on Wednesday. it was fixed around 4:00 p.m.
The agency tweeted, "We are currently running at normal operations. The root cause has still not been identified. Our staff and vendors will continue to search for the cause."
The North Texas Council of Governments said this wasn't part of some malicious attack.
"We had many contingencies in place so an outage like this could not occur," said Christy Williams, with the NTCOG. "Unfortunately, it did. We are taking every step to make sure it never does again."
NTCOG is working to update the system and Williams said there could be more service failures during that process.
Meantime Williams said she could not go into any greater detail about what went wrong Wednesday afternoon.
"The design of our network is a matter of national security so I can't go into those details," she said.

Collin County
Erath County
Ellis County
Hood County
Hunt County
Johnson County
Kaufman County
Navarro County
Palo Pinto County
Parker County
Rockwall County
Somervell County
Wise County
Cities of Balch Springs, Cockrell Hill, Sachse, Seagoville and Wilmer
"We've never had an outage of this type," said Williams, who said NCTCOG911 has been handling 911 operations for 26 years.
