$1,000,000 Bond For North Texas Man Accused Of Stealing Cattle

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas man is accused of steeling steers, hundreds of them, from a Nebraska rancher.
Officials say a rancher placed an order at a Nebraska-based cattle marketing agency. Tony Eugene Lyon of Perrin was tasked with supplying the steers. The rancher wrote a $798,000 check, of which Lyons received $791,000. After checking out the cattle the rancher decided they should be turned out on a wheat pasture and Lyon would take care of them until shipping.
When the rancher returned to check on the steers Lyon said he didn't have them and had gotten rid of the herd to "take care of some prior obligations." He did not return the money to the rancher or the marketing agency.
After the investigation, conducted by a Special Ranger with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Lyon was arrested and charged with theft of livestock of over $200,000. He remains in the Jack County Jail on a $1 million bond.
