Average retail gas prices have fallen 12.4 cents per gallon in the past week.
According to AAA Michigan, gas prices have fallen about 15 cents during the past week to a statewide average of about $3.43 per gallon.
By now every driver knows the drill: the price of gas ratchets up, there's an outcry among motorists, and then things settle down as the higher price becomes the new normal. And unfortunately, there's no going back to the "good ole days."
With Labor Day behind us and fears about military action in Syria easing up a little bit, gas prices have taken a slight dive. AAA Michigan says prices have dropped 9 cents over the last week.
Low prices for gas and high costs of retrieving it from deep rock offer little incentive for major development.
Look on the bright side: The average is about 32 cents per gallon less than last year at this time.
According to GasBuddy.com, prices at the pump are up almost eight cents a gallon over the past week in Metro Detroit.
"Cooler weather typically brings relief as demand declines and discretionary travel ebbs."
It's a possibility, as a plan is currently emerging in the State Capitol to raise the sales tax from six to seven percent to help pay for road maintenance.

Based on the latest surveys from AAA Michigan and GasBuddy.com, gas prices in Detroit have fallen about 27 cents per gallon in the past week.
"Gas retailers are warned: we are watching and will not hesitate to take action if you hurt consumers and break Michigan law," said Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.
With gas prices in Michigan the highest in the continental United States, state House Democrats are calling for an investigation.
