ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz would not give up injury information any earlier than absolutely necessary. Even just a couple hours before the injury report mandated by the NFL was scheduled to be released, Schwartz was tight-lipped.
"I know you guys have jobs to do and everything else, but you've got to understand where we're coming from with this also," Schwartz said. "I know it doesn't serve your needs the best way that you guys need it, but it serves our needs the best way that we need it, and that's how we're going to do it."
The injury report finally confirmed what everyone had suspected. First-round pick and defensive end Ziggy Ansah has been out with a concussion suffered Aug. 24 in practice.
Ansah did not even travel with the team to the Lions' final preseason game in Buffalo. Before he could be available for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Ansah would need to be cleared by an independent neurologist.
If Ansah misses Sunday's game, Willie Young - who made a name for himself by getting penalized for taunting New England quarterback Tom Brady this preseason - would start in his place.
