Ypsilanti Man Facing Charges After Police Chase, Standoff
PUTNAM TWP. (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Ypsilanti man is expected to face charges after a police standoff in Putnam Township.
Police say the whole situation started Friday afternoon when the man fled from officers who tried to stop him for reckless driving on M-36. The man allegedly rammed into an officer's vehicle before leading police on a six-mile pursuit.
Police followed the man as he drove to an acquaintance's house on Merrick Drive, near M-36 and Farley Road, and ran inside. After two hours, officers stormed the house and found the man hiding in a bathroom. He was taken into custody without incident.
According to police, the man was transported to the University of Michigan hospital for evaluation after making several irrational statements. Reports say the man was screaming bible verses. He was then expected to be jailed in Livingston County.
Police say the man, whose name wasn't immediately released, will likely be charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, obstructing justice and malicious destruction of property.
