You Don't Like Baseball If Cabrera's Not Your MVP
By: Dennis Fithian
I've looked at all the numbers and everything else just like you. Two months ago I would have voted for the Angels Mike Trout as MVP. However, on the last day on the MLB season, the MVP goes to the Tigers Miguel Cabrera. Voters must think about the history of the game before they pull out a formula to award MVP. Ninety five percent of baseball fans don't care or don't even know about Sabermetrics. Stop trying to be so smart. Baseball fans care about the history of the game. They care about the Triple Crown. I would have the voters watch the movie, Field of Dreams again, before casting their vote. Or at least read this quote from the movie (actor James Earl Jones playing Terence Mann)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."
No way you deny Miguel Cabrera the MVP this year. If you're a writer and you do, you just don't like baseball. Good luck in your roto league next year.
