Yale Teen Found Guilty In Father's Fatal Stabbing
PORT HURON (WWJ) - A Yale teenager has been found guilty of murdering her father.
St. Clair County Prosecutors say Tia Skinner, then 18 years old, planned the attack on her parents with two young men, one of which was her boyfriend.
The defense did not call any witnesses in the case.
Paul Skinner was stabbed to death inside his home last fall. Mara Skinner was stabbed several times, but survived.
Mara Skinner, a middle school teacher, described how she and her husband were resting comfortably the night of November 12, 2010, when they were awakened by the horrific attack. Paul Skinner left a trail of blood in his wake as chased the masked assailants from the home before he collapsed and died.
Mara Skinner testified that she didn't approve of her daughter dating 19-year-old Jonathan Kurtz who was convicted in an earlier trial. Prosecutors said Tia was angry at her parents for forbidding her from seeing Kurtz, and for grounding her and confiscating her cell phone.
A third person involved, 19-year-old James Preston, was also convicted of murder. They are to be sentenced next month.
