Wyandotte Mother, Boyfriend Charged After Toddler's Death Ruled Homicide
SOUTH ROCKWOOD (WWJ/AP) - A Wyandotte mother and her boyfriend have been charged in connection with the beating death of the woman's 2-year-old son.
Prosecutors earlier this week charged 26-year-old Jordan Henry with second-degree child abuse and 30-year-old Roger Schear with open murder, first-degree child abuse and two counts of third-degree child abuse in the death of Caius Henry.
The couple was arrested Wednesday after two months of investigating. The medical examiner's office ruled Caius' death a homicide, caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
The case started back on April 30, when police were called to the Village Place Apartments on Stoneridge Lane in South Rockwood on a report of a medical emergency involving a child. The boy was taken to the hospital where he died the next day.
Investigators say Schear is responsible for Caius' death. During an arraignment hearing, Police Chief Larry Chambers said Caius suffered weeks of prolonged abuse at the hands of Schear, who has a 5-year-old daughter of his own.
Abuse charges were brought against Jordan Henry because, according to police, she allowed Schear to care for her child despite having reason to know he was harming the boy.
Schear was ordered held without bond. The judge set bond at $100,000 for Jordan Henry. Both remain in the Monroe County Jail ahead of a preliminary examination on July 21.
