WSU Student Ends Swim Across Lake Michigan
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A Wayne State University student's quest to swim Lake Michigan has ended with disappointment.
Ashley St. Andrew set out Wednesday from Wisconsin trying to become the first woman to swim Lake Michigan's mid-section - a 50-mile stretch from near Green Bay to Ludington. But, according to her Facebook page, Thursday morning, arm and elbow pain coupled with rough waters that included six foot waves have proven to be too much. St. Andrew, an All-American swimmer from Wayne State reluctantly ended her attempt after about 30 miles.
However, the online compliments for her effort are already starting to trickle in. The swim was a fundraiser for cancer awareness.
