WSU College of Engineering To Host Two Career Fairs In October
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Employers looking to hire high-quality, experienced employees in full-time, part-time, internship and co-op positions can find them at the Wayne State University College of Engineering's upcoming career fairs on Thursday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
The Oct. 3 fair is designated for employers typically recruiting in manufacturing, energy and utilities, information technology, automotive, food and beverage industries, and robotics. The Oct. 10 fair is designated for employers looking to fill positions in health care, medical or chemical industries, architectural engineering, and civil and environmental engineering.
According to Wayne State College of Engineering Dean Farshad Fotouhi, the college's focus on providing students with more opportunities in and out of the classroom helps ensure they are ready to impact organizations starting on day one.
"We continue to enhance undergraduate research and extracurricular hands-on programs, and partner with companies to provide students with more internships and co-ops," Fotouhi said. "We have also increased efforts to provide students with a more global perspective through new scholarships. All these things ensure that we are graduating students who are well-rounded and ready to exceed as professionals."
He added, "Good engineers and computer scientists continue to be in great demand, especially here in Michigan. We are located right down the street from some of the greatest companies in the world, and we look forward to continued partnerships that afford our students and graduates opportunities for greater future success."
One employer already signed up for the fair is Faurecia, which has multiple locations in the Metro Detroit area and many more around the world. According to Elizabeth Fleming, country talent acquisition manager for Faurecia, they wouldn't miss it.
"Wayne State University has a great history of providing Faurecia with top quality engineering students and graduates," Fleming said. "We currently employ numerous Wayne State students and alums throughout our organization and continue to find that they have an incredibly solid educational base that allows them to truly excel in our unique culture driven by research and innovation. Take, for instance, Raj Chokhawala, a recent alumnus we hired in 2012 as an intern and just recently offered a full-time position to as a Research and Innovation Engineer. We look forward to continuing to nurture our partnership with Wayne State and opening our doors to Wayne State students and graduates alike in the years to come."
Added Chokhawala: "My strong engineering background coupled with assistance from career services has helped me successfully tackle challenging and interesting tasks on the Faurecia team. I feel fortunate to work at an amazing company like Faurecia."
Both fairs are set for 1 to 4:30 p.m. and will take place in the college's Engineering Building at 5050 Anthony Wayne Drive in Detroit. Employers participating in the fairs are invited to a recruiters' networking lunch with students and faculty at 11:30 a.m. These events are coordinated by the Engineering Career Resource Center and WSU Career Services and are hosted by College of Engineering student organizations.
