World Series: Tigers' Pitching Coach Would Play Valverde Again

DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) The headlines were about Justin Verlander, but he wasn't the only Tigers pitcher who struggled in the first game of the World Series.

Jose Valverde saw time in game one for the first time since giving up four runs in game one of the ALCS to the Yankees. Valverde only lasted a third of an inning Wednesday night in San Francisco, where he allowed two runs on four hits.

Detroit pitching coach Jeff Jones, however, was pleased with what he saw, saying, "I thought he was better tonight." When asked if he and the Tigers would be comfortable throwing Valverde again in this series he responded "Absolutely!"
